More about this artwork

"Landscape 5" by Kęstutis Jauniškis presents a vibrant and abstract interpretation of a natural landscape. The painting employs a broad palette that seamlessly transitions from cool to warm tones, capturing the ethereal beauty of an expansive outdoor scene. The artist has divided the canvas into several horizontal layers, each contributing a different element to the overall landscape. In the foreground, there are indications of sparse vegetation, perhaps small bushes or grass, rendered with quick, expressive strokes that give a sense of the wild, natural environment. This area has a predominantly pale color, suggesting a sandy or snowy surface that merges softly into the middle ground. The middle ground of the painting introduces more intense hues of pinks and reds, which could depict the reflection of the sky or perhaps even wildflowers dotting the terrain. This area acts as a dramatic and colorful bridge, pulling the viewer's eye toward the horizon. Most strikingly, the sky is painted in a deep, rich blue, occupying the upper third of the canvas. The boldness of the blue contrasts sharply with the more muted tones of the landscape, adding a powerful element of depth and mood to the scene. The approach to the sky indicates a certain time of day, perhaps early morning or late afternoon, where the blue is almost at its peak saturation.Overall, the painting communicates a wild, open scene, possibly untouched by human interaction, where the raw beauty of nature is expressed through dynamic colors and a compelling abstract technique.

Kęstutis Jauniškis was born in Lithuania in 1961. He studied economy at Vilnius University and graduated in 1985 with a degree in MA. While studying economy, the artist also attended the Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts and graduated in 1986. As an artist, Kestutis Jauniskis is interested in architectural forms and colour, and their relationship with their surroundings. In his paintings, reality is sometimes mixed with fantasy, which infuses a poetic touch into this rational world. It is in these scenes that Kestutis Jauniskis finds the shapes, colours, light and sky that evoke an emotional response in him, making him want to record them. The abstraction of his painting best represents the depth of feeling he has when viewing this real world that surrounds us, finding beauty in what others may consider ugly or mundane. At the same time, the artist likes to experiment with new abstract forms and objects. His work has been exhibited in Finland and Lithuania. He has participated in a group exhibition titled 'The Modern Lithuanian Art' at the Museum of Modern Art in Valencia, Spain.
